The Akashiya Co, Ltd., was founded in Japan in the Nara Prefecture in 1716 and is one of the top sellers of Japanese Calligraphy brushes. The Akashiya Co, Ltd. also produces ink as well as calligraphy tools, paintbrushes, ink painting brushes, brush pens and quite recently a makeup brush.

The hair for these brushes is taken from lambs, horses, the Japanese raccoon, or even cats and the shafts are usually made of bamboo, but are sometimes fashioned from wood. This basic Japanese design brush set includes 3 brushes with Moderate to Firm tips and is for general purpose use.
