The design work of M/M (Paris) is the product of a partnership founded in 1992 by Mathias Augustyniak and Michaël Amzalag. Rooted in an expanded conception of graphic design, M/M’s multi-disciplinary approach extends to artistic collaborations, product design, and commercial projects. Accompanying the exhibition M/M (Paris): Just Like an Ant Walking On the Edge of the Visible, this publication features graphics designed specifically for 41 seating objects. The installation uses one of M/M’s signature letterform alphabets to compose the exhibition’s titular phrase. A scholarly essay by Joao Ribas mines works of literature, critical theory, and art to consider the role of language systems in the production of knowledge and meaning.
