Accompanying the exhibition Gabriel de la Mora: Sound Inscriptions on Fabric, this publication features full-color illustrations of each of the exhibited fifty-five pairs of found speaker screens, each of which carries the “drawn” imprint of dust generated by the sound of countless voices, songs, commercials, news broadcasts, and static that passed through the fabric screen during the speaker’s life. Also included are newly commissioned scholarly essays. In his text “Gabriel de la Mora: The Readymade Drawing”, curator Brett Littman explores the artist’s distinctive approach to drawing as durational and readymade rather than an act of immediate creation by the artist’s hand.
