Accompanying Neo Rauch: Aus dem Boden / From the Floor, the first exhibition of Neo Rauch’s drawings, this publication highlights drawing as an essential but often overlooked aspect of the artist’s oeuvre. The publication features all of the works in the exhibition, many previously unpublished. Essays by the curators and an interview between the artist and New York-based painter Ena Swansea reveal Rauch’s drawings to be both personal and foundational to his overarching practice. Drawings, for Rauch, are like “illuminated moth collectors.” They are not for picture-making; rather they capture the artist’s dreams, visions, mistakes, and successes.
