Lawful Excuses

This limited edition of 30 prints by contemporary artist Walter Price were produced in conjunction with the exhibition Drawing in the Continuous Present, that included work by the artist. Price's first foray into printmaking, these editions are representative of his fluid sense of experimentation that encourages viewers to look and look again. Throughout his practice, Price aims to create exhilarating compositions that straddle the line between figuration and abstraction. Of the many tools and techniques that he uses to upset conventions—humor, mystery, and playful mark-making—strong political statements are the most dominant. For this series, titled Lawful Excuses, Price hand-colored each edition, creating a remarkable suite of one-of-a-kind prints.

The Drawing Center's limited editions are generously donated by artists and provide critical support for all that the organization does—from groundbreaking exhibitions and publications, to education and community initiatives. All proceeds of limited edition sales benefit The Drawing Center.
