Summatime Zine

Summatime is an existential mediation on family, community, romance, and city living. The zine takes on the form of a high school notebook and invites friends of the artist to reflect on travel as well as the hopes and dreams of people of color to find peace in American society. Pictured are drawings of the artist's friends and family on various road trips and other communal activities while the writing acts as a series of manifestations that offer a kind of resilience and strength to the reader.

Khari Johnson-Ricks is an artist and athlete working across media, including works on paper, zines, and black vernacular dance. The work is deeply concerned with acts of maintenance, training, and care. Through black movement traditions and queer fellowship, Johnson-Ricks hopes to find practices of sublimation that might draw him and the people in his community into closer, more fun, and freer relationships with one another. Johnson-Ricks is also deeply invested in preserving black dance lineages and futures as a covert language for solidarity, collective grief, and catharsis.
