Produced in conjunction with the exhibition Ecce Homo: The Drawings of General Idea, this poster features a reproduction of the artwork The Temptation of the Continental Poodle, 1992, by General Idea.
General Idea, a collective formed in 1969 by artists AA Bronson, Felix Partz, and Jorge Zontal, explored multimedia, conceptual, and performance work as a tool for engaging with common culture and its repressions. The poodle, known for its "wit, pampered presence and ornamental physique," was a central motif within General Idea's visual lexicon. A vehicle by which the group addressed issues ranging from sexual stereotypes to the commodification of contemporary art, the poodle appears throughout a number of their works.
